All about PNR
PNR is an abbreviation for “Passengers Name Record”. It is a unique 10-digit number that is generated in every ticket when booked. It stores information about the passengers’ details like date of birth, age, phone number, sex and email address.
It also has travel details of passengers, like seat number, coach name and number, mode of payment and class of travel. It shows whether the status of the ticket is confirmed or is currently on WL or RAC. PNR number is helpful for both the railway department and the passengers to run the whole cycle smoothly and efficiently. It is at the top left-hand side of the ticket.

How to Locate PNR Number on the Ticket?
When you book your ticket from IRCTC website, railway station or any private ticket booking counters, a 10-digit PNR number generated will be issued to you. Look at the upper hand side of the ticket to locate the PNR number.

CNF PNR Status, WL PNR Status, RC PNR Status, CAN PNR Status, GNWL Status, TQWL Status, PQWL Status, RLWL Status and NOSB Status.
The Validity of the PNR Number of Ticket
Indian people can book tickets three months in advance, but PNR number is issued whenever the ticket is booked and it will be valid till the date of journey. The PNR number for a single person and the group of people (maximum number is six) under a PNR will be kept by the Indian railways till the date of departure or the cancellation of the train. Railways store this information for six months after the journey, and after nine months, the same PNRs can be used.
